LITEON LITE-ON TECHNOLOGY CORPORATION

Lite-On Technology Corporation announced today that it has been awarded the contract from New Taipei City Government to replace more than 100,000 street lights in the 15 districts of the southern part of New Taipei City. The approximate population of New Taipei City is 3.9 million, which makes it the largest municipality in Taiwan in terms of population. The contract value is approximately NTD1.1 billion, and has the added benefit of providing around 1,000 new jobs.

This is the first time in Taiwan that an authority has applied the Private Finance Initiative (PFI) to street lighting contracts. A PFI contract involves the private sector making capital investment in the assets required to deliver improved services. The authority will pay on a performance-related basis for the use of the street lights and for its continuing management, which provides incentives for the private sectors to build and maintain the asset to a high standard.

Lite-On will deliver the updated generation of LED street lights as well as installation and maintenance services in order to optimize the performance of existing public works. After the replacement, the energy-efficient luminaires will reduce overall carbon dioxide emissions by 26,232 metric tons—equivalent to planting two million trees a year—and save 49,308 kWh of electricity, which reduces electricity costs by NTD 99 million.

Lite-On has shipped more than 500,000 LED street lights worldwide, including 80,000 in Taiwan. Lite-On will take the largest market share of LED street lights in Taiwan once the 100,000 lamps are installed.
